Take the durrr challenge
2011-01-09
Many players download Full Tilt Poker thinking that with enough studying, they will eventually have the guts to play versus Tom Dwan, whose Internet screen name is "durrr". Dwan was born in New Jersey almost 24 years ago, and he dropped out of college to pursue poker full time. Most of his poker hours are spent online, and the result is that most of his winnings have come online. He's starting to turn heads in the brick-and-mortars recently, however. He has participated in several live tournaments since becoming legal in the U.S., and he has appeared on a number of high stakes poker TV shows.

Dwan started playing poker around 6 years ago on Paradise, one of the leading gambling sites at the time. Once he was able to beat the sit-n-go's there, he moved to cash games on Full Tilt. To say that Dwan put in massive hours online is an understatement. His expert multi-tabling allowed him to download Full Tilt Poker and see hundreds of thousands of hands. Because of this, his bankroll ballooned as he moved up in stakes.

Being one of the best players in the world does not mean your game is immune to variance. Dwan has gone through some impressive swings during his online career, which isn't surprising considering his main game is heads-up No Limit Hold'em or Pot Limit Omaha. He has won millions of dollars at a time, but he has also lost millions. The most famous downswing he's had was thanks to a player from Sweden called "Isildur1", who challenged him to a grueling heads-up match on multiple tables. When the week was over, Dwan had lost around $5 million. I think that I would quit poker for Craps online if I lost that much money in a week, but Dwan has obviously proven that he can handle the mental challenge poker provides.

The infamous $ 1 million challenge was issued by Dwan at the start of 2009. He will play anyone except Phil Galfond heads-up, and the rules are that they must play 4 tables at once and a total of 50k hands. The winner at the end of the series will also win some extra cash. If Dwan wins, his opponent will give him $500k. However, if the challenger wins, Dwan will give him $ 1.5 million. Players wanting to challenge Dwan must first use a Full Tilt referral code and make a poker deposit.

To date Dwan has cashed for around $ 1.5 million in live tournament poker. He has cashes all over the world, including in the EPT, the Aussie Millions, and of course the WPT and WSOP. He made his best ever WSOP finish in 2010, making almost $400k after coming 2nd in a $ 1.5k NLHE event. A lot of people were very happy that Dwan did not WIN a WSOP event because apparently there were a lot of bracelet bets involving him. Some people earn a Roulette bonus for their gambling fix, other people make WSOP prop bets.

Dwan always had respect from the online pros, but playing several live events and appearing on TV shows such as Poker After Dark and High Stakes Poker has earned him respect from the live pros, as well. He's achieved so much at such a young age. It's safe to assume that he will enjoy many more accomplishments throughout his career. If you aspire to be as great as Dwan one day, you need to get rid of the Blackjack download and spend your time playing poker instead.
